Kathu.. A Mining Town in the Northern Cape RSA. Sunsets and Sunrises.

Kathu is a mining town in a province of South Africa known as the Northern Cape. The Mine, Sishen Mine, is the biggest Iron Ore Mine in South Africa and I think now the biggest open pit mine in the world. It is a beautiful town with all the amenities that one could want. It is located in a very arid part of the country, known as the Kalahari, flat with low shrubbery, and then a forest of the tree known as the “Camel Thorn” surrounds the town.. but the sunrises and sunsets are special… maybe it has something to do with the dry dusty conditions… here are a few photos showing this beauty…

  1. A global characteristic–all the best sunsets occur where the air is full of particles–but the clean air locales make up for it with the brightness of their night skies. Great photos, Bill.
