I quite like the black and white effect of the Zebra when depicted in a B & W photo… I saw a photo taken so many years ago by my Mother in Rhodesia and this gave me the encouragement to play a bit. Some of the photos I also enhanced a tad using Photscape a free photoshop type program..
Love these photos – Zebras lend themselves so well to black and white photography. Stunning creatures.
I took recently photos of a young Zebra (new Born) with its family unit and turned a lot of those photos to B&W… it was surprising how well the youngster is mixed in with the parents… and one can understand why a Lion might have difficulty distinguishing the young from the old…fantastic…
Beautiful shots… Zebras are meant to be seen in B&W …
Thank you… and I agree the lend themselves to the change from colour… thank you for the look in and comment..
Great photos, of course! In particular I like the final closeup. The black and white is a nice choice. It seems that everywhere you go you have the most wonderful photographic opportunities! 🙂
Thank you… I am blessed to have the chances to capture what I do… living near parks and having family living in different parts of South Africa certainly helps…. but actually living anywhere in our country one is never very far from a park or an opportunity, if one just looks…
Very nice shots! Zebras are so beautiful… you made a wonderful job with the B/W 🙂
Thanks they did come out well…
Lovely images – the black and white effect is perfect!
Thank you… your comments are always appreciated… with the standard of photos on your blog… this is appreciated…
What fantastic use of black and white! And they are beautiful creatures – you’ve done them justice here;)
Thank you.. I appreciate the sentiments…
stunning!
Thanks…
These pics made my eyes go funny. 🙂 Such gorgeous creatures, bdt.
That they are… the change to B&W actually improves their look to me… really enjoyed it..
Wonderful photos, Rob. I’ve always thought zebras were pretty cool looking animals.
Thanks Maralee… there is a bit of a back ground to the B&W feature it’s to do with the fact, Apparently Lion only see in B&W, a herd of Zebra must be pretty confusing to there eyesight…
These are amazing! The black and white effect is perfect for these stripey friends – lots of fun.
Thank you… I’m pleased with the way they came out… a true zebra crossing…
These photos are excellent, Rob! Love them all and I love the use of black & white. 🙂
Thanks Inga… they just seem to lend them selves to the change…
Zebras are gorgeous, black & white is just perfect for these pics 😀
Thank you…
Yep! That’s black and white all over 🙂
a really stripy antelope… hypnotic in B&W I thought…
Is monochromatically cool!
The zebra photos are amazing. Great work.
Thanks Genie… much appreciated…
Gorgeous animals and a beautiful series of photos. Great job :). I especially love the close-up shot!
Thank you.. I’ve been experimenting with the antelope photos to see how their camouflage changes in B & W, after talking to a Lion expert that informs me that Lion only see in B&W… the Zebra when in big herds more often than not avoid being captured by Lion and I can see why… they must just appear as one big stripe and difficult for the Lion to select one to go after…
Very interesting!! That’s what I love about your blog – I always learn something totally new and fascinating :).
gorgeous, I love zebras too for that b&w dazzle!
They turned out better than any of the others antelope I’ve tried in B&W…
These are just great Rob! I absolutely love Zebras and you’ve captured them perfectly. The black and white idea really works! 🙂
I did it in response to a Lion expert that tells me Lion only see in B&W… must be a difficult capture when Zebra are in big groups…
These are awesome photos – I love the zebras in black and white!
Thank you… yes their pajamas… they just seemed right for the experiment…
So pretty!
Thanks Mate.. go well and good luck with the film…
TNX
These are just STUNNING! Great choice to make these black and white…when they are grouped close together I just love the patterns together 🙂
I did this as an experiment… after talking to a Lion expert that informs me that Lion only see in B&W… the Zebra when in big herds more often than not avoid being captured by Lion and I can see why… they must just appear as one big stripe and difficult for the Lion to select one to go after… they say this is why the wildebees are often within the herds of Zebra, as they give them some form of camouflage…interesting…
I forgot to say, don’t ask me how they know Lion only see in B&W… you could hardly put him in a chair and ask what colour he sees, without suffering a loss of an arm or leg…lol
Maybe they hypnotize them….I wonder if they ask them what kind of ice cream they like…chocolate, vanilla, peppermint..
The expert was a young girl of 25 odd… and naturally I challenged the claim..(me being me) she went to long lengths of given me all the technical data etc… couldn’t argue with that so accepted what she said… next time I see her as she is taking me out to their Lions again, I’ve got to ask her what Icecream they like… an American wants to know… that should throw her a curve ball….lol
They’re gorgious. I like the “three in a row” photo 🙂
Thank you… I took nearly 100 photos of them that day, and just liked these the most…
Amazing pictures.
Thank you so much…
Incredible photos of incredible animals!
I think you need a few of these on the farm… they would keep your other farmies under control
Okay just send me one over!
What about a pair… but then your customs and immigration are so strict.. they would probably say NO…
We could try triplets?
