Red billed Spurfowl… a Photo set that speaks for itself…

The Red-billed Spurfowl (Pternistis adspersus), also known as the Red-billed Francolin.

One that is not easy to capture on camera… this one walked right up to me hidden behind a tree…. it was a big tree luckily…

Kalahari Desert and surrounds.

The Kalahari Desert (in Afrikaans "Dorsland", meaning "thirst land")

The Bulldog went a walk about… the Kalahari being his place of choice…

A quick description of the Kalahari; a large semi-arid sandy savannah in Southern Africa extending 900,000 square kilometres (350,000 sq. mi), covering much of Botswana and parts of Namibia and South Africa. The surrounding Kalahari Basin covers over 2,500,000 square kilometres (970,000 sq. mi) extending farther into Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, and encroaching into parts of Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Rivers??? there are none (permanent that is) except the Okavango, which flows into a delta in the northwest of Botswana, forming marshes that are rich in wildlife.

Where all did the Bulldog go? Kathu, Kakamas, Keimoes, Upington, Augrabies, Postmasburg, Beeshoek, (where I shall be doing a post on their golf course on my other blog) and the Kalagadi Gemsbok Park which is part of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.

Where can these towns be found? In the Northern Cape province of South Africa…..

We live in Pretoria so it gives you an idea of where we travelled to…..

In the next couple of weeks I’m going to share my photo graphic journey with you, we have much to be grateful for, the biggest being my Son, who took the time and expense to take us to all the different places… and to the wild antelope and birds that posed so gracefully, allowing some of the best photography I’ve ever taken…
