African Red-eyed Bulbul (Pycnonotus nigricans)
This bird is always on the move, skittish to say the least. I have struggled to get a good photo of them, but the Bulldog had an idea…. (can you see the bulb above my head?)
It is found in South Africa. Its natural habitats are dry savannah and subtropical or tropical dry scrubland, and it’s downfall..? Fruit.!!! So if the dang bird won’t sit still long enough in the bush, get a piece of wood, add a few nails and hang some fruit on the nails… and wallah… they come to you….
I took a lot of photos as it was not only the Red-eyed that came to visit, but many other specie as well. It helps to be in an arid area at this time of the year when their food is fairly scarce…
