Then there’s Anneli at http://wordsfromanneli.wordpress.com/ an author (Published at that) who every now and then shares historic (well not that long ago) photo stories of her and Hubbies travels through Europe in a kombi… I love her travels… wow they were so young then…
Then there’s my favourite Swede Viveka at http://mygulitypleasures.wordpress.com Oh if I had only known her years ago… she has had the blessed life of traveling the world in a ship and now cavorts all over the place and shares these trips with her followers…. always had a hankering to know a Swedish Girl…
But now for the Bulldog Dream that hopefully will in the near future become a reality, well not all of it as you will see, but some of it has to happen before I leave this world for where ever I’m heading… this is to be my and Linda’s future home… the Pacer 6…

Now the idea is to tow a small car behind the Motorhome so that when reaching a destination one can run around and see the sights… now this is what I had in mind… Linda not so big on the idea as it has a R1 400 000 price tag, but it was recently clocked on the runway in Upington at 302.2 km/h. (188.75 m.p.h) now with this we can get around quickly..
But reality will probably dictate a more realistic dream being a car something like this…
Well we can dream..it costs nothing and who knows… dreams do come true…

and when the house is sold we will have more than enough money to buy it… so the dream is not so far off now.. (we hope)… and the other good news is my wish list camera has at last reached our shores so it won’t be long and it will also be in my possession…

No… I want the Fujifilm HS 50 camera… I presently have the HS 10, the 50 has a slightly longer zoom but more importantly it has 16.5 megapixel capability higher than the 10.. slightly faster and a few extra features… I’m not into interchangeable lens cameras as when birding one just does not have the time, so a manual zoom on the camera works much better for me…. as well as it is smaller camera giving movability…something one loses with these cameras with lens that look like canon barrels…
I have been reading reviews on new cameras for some time and have also decided against interchangeable lenses. Given that we like to hike, I don’t want to be toting around a number of lenses and have to change them out. I have been looking at the Fujifilm HS 50, X-S1 and the Panasonic Lumix FZ200. Seeing such great photos that folks are taking with bridge cameras and reading lots of articles by professionals, I feel very comfortable purchasing one of them. Thanks for the info Bulldog.
Yes LuAnn sure these cameras don’t have the multiple focal points etc and the autofocus can’t be trusted all the time… but when I go out with a group I’m carrying a small bag on my hip, and am ready to shoot at a moments notice… the others with their back packs and multiple lens are weighed down and take so much longer to be ready to shoot than I do… and when it comes to comparing photos, they are sometimes at a loss for words when they see what I’ve captured…
More and more I am reading about top professionals carrying a bridge camera around instead of a DSLR and several lenses. I don’t plan to be a top pro in this field but want to learn how to take photos like a bulldog I have grown to know and love. 🙂

That was once our dream for our retirement – but dreams don’t often come true…
We made the first step yesterday with a consult on the Vista 6 our motorhome of choice… all that holds us up now is the sale of our house… so I think we might just have our dream come true…

A nomad’s life, to wander at will, hit the open road, search out the gems … sounds wonderful.
Oh we can’t wait… been campers and wanders most of our life, but this has just been a dream we have both had, just want the comforts of home now that we are both getting a little older…
It’s good to dream. So dream big. Me? I’m a homebody. Traveling around in an RV would be more of a nightmare. But that’s what make life so darned interesting–different strokes for different folks. Let’s hope the price of fuel goes down, though. Those RVs are thirsty buggers…
We went today to look at the other RV that we had selected as a possible.. and we are sold, it is the one we want, it has all the mod cons of home including 2 TV, shower, toilet, bouble bed, lounge and dining room… and cheaper than the others… and believe it or not it gets 12 Km/ litre that would be 35 M.P.G. not bad…
No, that isn’t bad at all. Sounds like the dream may become a reality. Good for you!

As it happens I was cursing RV drivers and cars towing caravans just last week in the narrow country lanes of Cornwall in England. but give me the wide open spaces of Africa, the US, Australia etc., and I would love to have a mobile home to travel the world. However, if I could afford the Jag and stay in luxury hotels, I might enjoy that even more!
Now you got it Brian… if one could afford the Jag, a motor home would not be necessary, one would just stay in 5 star hotels and fly everywhere…

Strangely enough that was the same motorhome hubby and I was looking at the one day and that is our dream too bulldog. Who knows, we might meet each other on the way. 😀 It’s true … dreams do come true and you and Linda’s dream and ours will come true for sure. I agree, the Figo is more realistic. We’ll just tow our Uno behind the motorhome. Can you think how much photo’s we will take? Wow! Now that is one adventure I’d love to take. We plan on travelling all down the coastline. Thanks Sonel… we have looked at a few different Motorhomes and to me this one is by far the best for it’s price… the power of the engine makes you feel as though you are in a normal car, and I like the idea of a toilet, shower and basin in the home… the swing around front seats turn the dining area into a wonderful cosy lounge and the centre bed is a must… too old for Linda or I to climb over the other in the middle of the night…
We intend to travel the whole country coastal and inland… places like Carnarvon, Calvinia and Vanrynsdorp are absolute jewels in the Karoo, that we have hastily passed through and I could happily spend a week or two in each town… Can you imagine visiting the W Cape in flower time, being able to camp off and get those unusual flower photos one sees in National Geographics…
I have also heard my new camera is in the country.. the Fujifilm HS 50… man life just feels right to take that turn we so desperately need…
The W Cape coast line would also be a must as well as Namibia… I could write a book on this already before we even have the home…
Same here bulldog. Like I told hubby … I am not build for speed but for comfort. I want everything close to me and can’t do much climbing around either. 😆
That just sounds like heaven my friend and it would be so great to do that. To me that is total freedom for sure. The first place hubby wants to take me to is Knysna. I can just imagine those flower scenes. It would be awesome. 😀
So you want another Fujifilm. I will be sure to check it out too. I am stuck on the Canon 7D EOS with a telephoto lens but it’s very pricey but well, like you said…our dreams will come true and I am betting on that. 😀
Namibia is a great place to visit too. We lived in Keetmanshoop for 2 years and I would love to go back there for a visit as well.

Gosh Rob….you are too sweet. Thank you for all the kind words. I’m so excited for you and Linda that you’re getting closer to that motorhome. Ya know you could give me that Jag and I wouldn’t want it…..oh wait….I’ll take it, what a heck of a trade in on a Jeep 😆 My 4×4 Toyota Tacoma allows us to travel some pretty rough roads….tons of fun. That Jag would fall apart…..so you’re wise to go practical, but you can dream. Thanks again and hope to share some fun spots in a couple of weeks when we leave Colorado and head into Utah.

Yep ,,, mind you if I owned the Jag…. I could sell it and buy the Motorhome and even have spare change from it more than enough to buy the car as well and still have money over… I do believe that Utah is a beautiful place to visit… look forward to that … 4 of us in SA, oh yes that would be fun…
That is a travelling mansion! When I think of the comparative comfort we had in a Combi Campervan with a family of four …
I agree Col we used to do so much when the kids were smaller with so little space… this however gives us the comforts of home as we will be doing it on a full time basis… but the Combi Campers were fun…

A wonderful way to experience travel. One time our plans were for a few day visit and ended staying a month because we became immersed in the culture. Plus there is nothing better than your own pillow to rest your head on at the end of the day 🙂
I so agree… we plan to move and stop when tired of the place move on… I can’t wait for all the plans to come now to fruition..
Thanks for the mention on your blog, Rob.I love the look of your new motorhome. You’re going to have so much fun with it. I like the idea of towing the Jag, but when it comes to buying groceries, there’s not a lot of room to load them in that snazzy car, and anyway, you’d be worried sick about parking it out on the lot. It would either get dinged by a careless driver or you’d come out with your groceries and find yourself carless. Much better to go with the economy car. Adventures await you, and we await the blog posts that will tell us about them.

I know you were kidding about the Jag, but the rest – you’ll have a wonderful time. I really believe that seeing other parts of the world, even close to home, makes us more tolerant of many things and opens our eyes and minds.
This sounds like really exciting plan, bulldog. I think that Ford will be much easier to get spare parts for. One does have to be practical, as I’m sure Linda has already told you. 🙂

Yes there is camp sites in every town and then even stuck away in the bush… the Jag would be towed by the motor home, but Linda wont even consider it… maybe the price tag has something to do with it…
Not to mention the insurance on it LOL
I love your dream! I too, am following a couple who have taken up the RV life in their retirement. This is their first year and his blog started with the idea in its conception and continues through the shopping for the right RV for them, selling their house and starting on their journey. I like the sound of some of your other bloggers…will check them out.
Thanks Mrs.P. we are already talking to the people that build the Pacer 6.. there are a few different layouts and options, and as yet we still have to ensure all of our future plans… to sell the house is going to make us feel a bit like a Hobo with no fixed address, but we are progressing along the lines I Like and it will happen… not the F type Jag unfortunately, but I will have to make a few compromises…
Is Ingrid’s blog the best??? I love following their adventures and now we’ll all get to follow yours! Congrats to you for making your dreams happen! Can’t wait for the explorations to begin!
