As yet not fully recovered…

I return slowly to the blogging community, not yet fully recovered, but feeling definitely on the up and up, I greet you all.

We leave soon for the Kalahari, where I’m sure my total return to good health awaits me. I need to move on, to forget the last few weeks and all that it gave me.

Over two weeks now since I last lit a cigarette and believe me when I say I’m surprised till now, I have not missed it at all, not an urge or a craving.

Sweets, chocolates and even cakes have no taste, if anything they taste terrible. I’m led to believe this is from all the antibiotics that were pumped into me. Please God let my taste buds return to normal, as all food tastes strange and my weight is dropping unprecedentedly. A thin Bulldog is not what I want.

The vultures that felt as though the were circling, have gone to roost, I’m not ready to move on yet… here are a few photos from the past as till now I have not ventured out to capture anything new…

  1. OMC Bulldog, what happened? I have to do some updates from you latest post. I’m sorry you’ve been ill, but happy to hear that you’re feeling better…and still have your humor. You’re one of a kind, my furriend. The vultures must be hiding from you..MOL. Sending Extra Healing Pawkisses for a speedy recovery… and no smoking anymore, you can do it! .

  2. Lovely photo’s, Bulldog, and I’m glad to hear you are improving in health AND that the cigs are out of the picture too! That can only be good! Slowly is good too. Please don’t overdo things. I’ve been down with the ‘flu and it’s taking me ages to get back to normal… Ageing is the pits!

  3. Gee, I go out of town for a week or so and you fall apart on me! 😉 Seriously though, I’ve been catching up with my blog and just started reading yours and my heart skipped a beat. Life is full of mind numbing surprises, and as you have found out personally, not all good. Take your time and listen to your body, rest and hopefully this will all be a distant memory. I’m sending you (and your wife) positive energy and lots of wishes for a speedier recovery.
    Take good care,
    Elisa

  4. Keep those vultures away! Great to know that you are recovering, boy, it’s been a rough road for you Bulldog. You get well and take it easy. Hopefully your sense of taste returns soon, that is not a good thing to endure. Hang in there, you’ll soon be up on your feet showing those vultures whose boss and then you won’t see them for dust … 🙂

  5. Good to hear you are on the mend. I hope and trust your taste buds will pick up real soon – enjoy the Kalahari!

  6. I’m so glad to see that you are at least slowly making your way back. And I’m thrilled you will have the opportunity to complete your recovery in the Kalahari. That sounds like the best medicine for you. I really hope your appetite and taste returns before long, but if you were taking that many antibiotics, it does sort of tell us how very sick you were! I’m glad those buzzards have been banished–you are too valuable to friends and family, at home and across the blogosphere! it’s nice to hear a good health report, Rob!

  7. Pics of buzzards is perfect for your return! 🙂 … and yes … let’s get those taste buds back!!!! Glad that you are on the upside, so hang in there and be patient.

  8. Dry air, no cigarettes (wise 4 year old granddaughter!) and above all, awesome photography…therapeutic Kalahari awaits. Just love Zannyro’s “No vulture fly-zone”. 11 outta ten. 🙂 Get well sooner than soon, Bulldog.

  9. If leaving the cigarettes behind is a result of what you have had to deal with, then there is a positive! Off to the Kalahari to find your remaining strength Bulldog. Take care and we will be looking forward to some breathtaking photos. 🙂

    • Thanks LuAnn, yes I got a big fright from this occurrence and when informed that a lot of colon problems are the result of smoking I had now received the push I needed. My one four year old grand daughter came to visit me in hospital and told me I was sick because I smoked and that I should give it up (probably pushed to say this by her mother or grand mother) but it had a profound effect on me.. and there and then I gave up and up to today, I have not even thought of lighting up…

We were meant to leave for the Kalahari today, but I just did not feel up to the 600 kilometer drive, so we will hopefully be on our way tomorrow.
I just know I will recover quicker there than in the city, its my type of world and that dry clean air is what my collapsed lungs need.
The camera has been dusted off and I’m ready to go.. so watch this space…
Thanks for the visit and comment LuAnn I do so appreciate your visits…

      • It is amazing how such a wee child can elicit such change, but we hear stories like this so often. Whatever it took, giving up cigarettes is a good thing. 🙂 Get plenty of rest in that dry air and when you are ready, we will be looking for some great photography. 🙂

  10. It’s just you that can make a vulture look so beautiful Rob! I love these. I am very glad to hear you are doing better. Enjoy the time in the Kalahari and rest well. Thinking of you. 😀

    • Thanks Carol… the taste buds will return… off to the Kalahari, so the lust for life is nearby, as for the Ciggies, when my grand daughter of 4 said I was sick because of the cigs and thanked me for stopping how can I do anything but.. that is motivation enough, she wants me around for a long time to come she says…

  11. No vultures are allowed around you or your family!! No more!! You need some days of good health surrounding all of you. I am hoping your time away provides much in the way of rest and recovery time. You and Linda are in my thoughts and prayers!

  12. Glad you are feeling well enough to checkin. Sounds like you’re getting some good advice and that taste will be returning soon…hopefully real soon!

    • Thanks Smallhouse… I agree with you, a break away from where at the moment it is just the illness in my mind away to an area filled with everything but…

  13. Ah, that makes me happy, Rob! I was a bit worried about the buzzards there for a bit… I am delighted to see them banished to roost! 🙂 Go a little slow now. But, GO! Congratulations! I do believe you’ve whipped it! Welcome back!

    • Thanks AD… feel like I’ve been to hell and back but a visit to the Kalahari can only do me some good… need to forget the ordeal and and what better way than to distract the mind…

  14. Glad to hear you are feeling better, Bulldog.

My Best wishes for a full recovery soon and a much needed break from ‘Health Stuff’.

Sometimes your Mind & Spirits need uplifting after a Health Scare which you’ve just had. Try to relax and take life at a slow pace until you really feel up to the old routine.

Don’t rush it and put more strain on your body’s healing ability.

(having been in hospital & through the ‘wringer’ myself in the 10 days, I can assure you your taste buds will soon return to normal as the toxic antibiotics & anaesthetic chemicals make their way out of your system. It helps to drink lots of pure water and eat simply and with smaller portion sizes for a while, but I’m sure the Dr will have already told you all that. Some people find it helpful to take probiotics to restore their natural gut bacteria after antibiotics. I never have used them. I find my home-made chicken, ginger root & garlic broth works wonders on the digestive system & healing, and……….well, you’ve just got to be patient for that horrible metallic taste goes away. I’m experiencing the same at the moment, so I daresay I have an inkling as to how you might be feeling. I have the distinct advantage of having been through it all several times before in recent years, but can appreciate how terrifying this sudden health emergency was for you).

    Fantastic photos by the way.
    Vicki

    • Thanks Vicki… you describe that taste to a tee… a horrible metallic taste… Linda keeps feeding me yogurt, (Greek type) and I’ve found an urge for bananas which I actually hate… been eating them like there is no tomorrow, but they say the body tells you what you need and mine must need potassium… eating smaller meals more often and actually having to force them down due to the terrible taste… drinking lots of water specially for the bladder infection… thanks Vicki, hope you are back to full health…

  15. We’re glad you’re back (and the vultures are moving somewhere). Take things easy though. Being opened up is not a joke (says one with CS scars) . 🙂 As an aside, I heard that these vultures are now the subject of an experiment to determine what kind of antibiotics they have that keeps them safe from the bacteria from their food.

    • I do believe you are right on the experimental side of vultures… but enough about antibiotics having received 63 bottles and sachets intravenously… Thanks Imelda for the good thoughts…

  16. I’m glad you’re feeling on the upswing! I will say that I am so glad you are not smoking. I smoked for 15 years and stopped one day and never looked back. There seems to be a huge silver lining here! Glad to see you here. 🙂

    • I’ve been smoking for fifty years and the stopping seems to be necessary as the Dr explained how the smoking could affect the inner workings of the body… but with collapsed lungs from the swelling, I could hardly breathe forget smoking.. so it just seemed the obvious thing to do… but when my four year old grand dauughter said thank you that I had stopped, how could I ever start again…good to be back…

  17. Ditto what Cee says above. We need our cheerful, upbeat and incredibly funny Bulldog back to help brighten our day. Kicking the smoking habit has to be a good thing but I’m sure the tastebuds will come back so you enjoy eating again real soon. Wishing you all the best.

    • Thank you so much… looks like I’ve been missed… the smoking has to stop, my grand daughter was too pleased when she heard and she’s only 4 years old, how can I disappoint her… having celebrated my birthday in hospital, I missed out on all the good stuff, but it is still owed me, the taste buds must now return so I can take up the challenge of eating all I want for a day…

  18. Be careful of those vultures. Years ago I had a poster that showed two vultures sitting on a branch and the caption was: “Patience my ass! I’m gonna kill something.” So watch out for them. Good to hear you’re feeling better.

    • The vultures should beware .. they might just find me lying on my back to entice them closer, just to taste if they are better than the food presently being fed me… lol

    • Thanks Cee… got one hell of a fright, and at one stage would have happily tossed in the towel just to get away from the pain and discomfort, but not time for the vultures yet so they can move on in search of something else…
