Now I wrote that title because I have no idea of what I intend to blog today… news from New Zealand that a blogger I follow has taken the first step in her book writing gets me smiling…
A post from my favourite Editor/ Author and friend has me pondering the cover of my book and what it means to me…
Do you judge a book by its cover? Does the cover give you an idea of its content? Does the cover attract your attention to investigate further? All these type questions have me pondering the selection I’d made… who knew there was so much that goes into publishing a book… I didn’t…
Then there’s Ingrid… Who, with hubby Al seem to be touring the whole of America… Al is an ex pilot… and Ingrid air hostess/ developer/ business owner can’t actually remember what all she does, pens a post about blogging… and again it has me pondering all that she shares… such wonderful points to remember when we share our thoughts on this medium…
But for a good smile, a touch of jealousy, and a thoroughly enjoyable blog there is Col (proud to say he is a fellow South African) his poetry puts a smile on my face every single time he posts…
But what about that Canadian Diana… hell I hope she’s Canadian, otherwise I’m in trouble… her post from yesterday that had me think about the answers all day….
What of Keira McKenzie and mtlawleyshire… hell I’ve never known anyone that can take a photo of a tree and make it come alive on my computer screen like she does… An Australian Girl… Australian men say their women are chrome plated… I wonder why they say that??
Then there was a email today… an offer to help fund the printing of my book. This from America. How special does that make one feel..?? I won’t name the person, but you know who you are and my heartfelt thanks for the offer… very tempted, but I need to face the possible loss alone…
This is just but a few of the blogs that have crossed my screen today that have this head working overtime…
Hell I love blogging for this very reason… and then a photo of my SiL s camera and the birds that came to inspect it…
The cover absolutely has an impact on whether or not I purchase. I have purchased children’s books from two bloggers I follow. One is a fabulous wordsmith and wrote about a topic I dearly love…historical fiction, but the cover and illustrations did not appeal to me at all. Despite this being one of my favorite writers, I did not rush out and purchase the book.
The other author had a fabulous illustrator and the images jumped out as FUN is inside…you will want to read me. And I purchased immediately. It was a fun book, although a bit short but was interesting enough for me to buy every book this author wrote.
Nearly a year later, I have purchased the book from the author in the first paragraph and have not yet opened it. I know I will eventually, I want to read it but the cover doesn’t demand that I read it NOW!
And what do you think of my cover? Would you say it appeals for further investigation?
My critical eye says the cover is good except for one thing…the black bird has too much shadow.
Everything else looks great.
But…I would buy your book anyway because I have heard excerpts of your life and I find it quite interesting. If I didn’t know you and saw the book I think it would be appealing enough to check it out.
Thanks Mrs P. that photo is one I never thought I’d capture, two such birds sitting together… the black one, a forked tailed drongo is never an easy good capture, they tend to sit in shadows and blend into the surrounds…
Smart bird! 😉
Love that last photo. Remind me of the Pied Piper, only it’s birds and a camera…not much like the Pied Piper at all, come to think of it! Oh well! I love blogging, too. Much more fun that trying to sell a book! 😉
Oh you have that right… if I knew this before I would never have written the book…
I know…but then I wrote two books. What does that say about me? I guess I’m a glutton for punishment, I have serious memory problems, or I’m an infernal optimist! You pick! 🙂
Clearly blogging provides a lot of satisfaction… I will get started one day.
You have to… it’s like a drug… addictive…
Feeling privileged to get the first mention – you have been my inspiration.
Thank you Jan… just glad you have made a start… it does get easier…
just got approached by a friend who wants us to do a book too! Might start with his idea, think it could be a bit easier – will keep you posted 🙂
Thanks for the extremely kind mention!
I do enjoy your blog Col… and yesterdays was a good one…
I had no idea when I started my blog that my life would be enriched so by the kind folks who I have met along the way, both those in the cyber-ether around the globe and those I have personally met. I an anxiously awaiting your book Bulldog. I feel that it is going to be a success! 🙂
Thanks LuAnn… we seem to be heading down the right paths for publication now…
Yes!
I love your book cover, Rob. I was wondering about the colour of the print on the cover. Of course you’ve tried it in other colours? I was wondering about a dark brown, or…? Sometimes if you try it out with different colours you might find one is better than another. But you may have already done that.
I have played with it Anneli… just not sure that the other colours fit well… maybe I should do a few and share here to get others opinions…
Thanks for the link to my post bulldog and sharing all the other links that I must now go check out! I can’t wait until you have no questions left for your book, until it’s just published! ❤
Diana xo
I think the publishing is running down a good path now… Thanks Diana
That’s great news!
Awe, thank you Rob for your kind words and mention. I’m drooling over your SIL’s camera and lens. Perhaps someday! Isn’t it amazing the friendships that have developed via our little blogs…. half a word away and yet there’s a common thread and a community. I look forward to hearing the details of how you’ll bring your book to the masses. And remember, keep it fun and post when you feel like it 🙂
The book is now at a publisher for consideration, I might have to pay towards publishing costs but they handle everything with a POD and the eBook so we feel we are msking progress. ..
Yes it is astounding the connections and friends one makes in the blogging world, makes the world so much smaller, yet bigger… know what I mean?
We blog because we do for so many reasons!
So right as usual
… and my friends and family question why I blog. Your post gave several reasons why 🙂
Thanks Joanne… my family and friends wonder too…. they don’t know what they are missing
I guess it either clicks with you or it doesn’t. I’m glad it did for me 🙂
